A cosmetic dental treatment can transform more than your smile; it can transform your emotional well being and general attitude towards life. The appearance of our smiles is important in our modern society. Straight, healthy-looking, white teeth convey youthfulness and vigor to those around us. Fortunately, those with imperfect smiles have abundant treatment options at our practice. Some of our most popular cosmetic treatments are white restorations, porcelain veneers and teeth whitening.

White Restorations

We tend to think of fillings or dental crowns as only having value as restorations, but they have cosmetic appeal as well. White restorations can blend in seamlessly with natural tooth structure. For small areas of damage or decay, a filling is ideal for strengthening the tooth and protecting it. In the past, fillings were made from amalgam – a silver colored restoration that looks very noticeable. Today, however, composite resin is a durable and natural looking alternative to metal fillings. Composite resin is a tooth-colored compound made from glass and plastic. This material, in addition to filling cavities, can be used in bonding treatments. Bonding can conceal chips and stains on teeth.

Dental Crowns are wonderful ways to enhance the appearance of teeth and protect their structure from future damage. These restorations can improve the appearance of teeth by rebuilding them to their rightful shape, conceal cracks and jagged edges and hide discolorations. Since dental crowns can be made from porcelain, they closely resemble healthy and vibrant biological teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers can transform the way a person’s smile appears. Patients in need of a total smile makeover might want to consider porcelain veneers as a treatment option. These wafer-thin cosmetic enhancements are bonded over the outside of teeth to hide imperfections like chips, cracks, stains, gaps, and misshapen edges. A series of veneers can transform a crooked, imbalanced smile into a straight, uniform one.

Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening treatments produce incredibly effective results that last. In fact, professional whitening can lighten your teeth up to about eight shades. When you receive whitening treatments from our team at Plantation Palms Dental, you will enjoy effective treatments that are safe for tooth structure. We only utilize quality-tested, prescription-strength whitening formulas. This cosmetic dental service can enhance a patient’s appearance by making their teeth appear healthier and look whiter.

Cosmetic FAQs

What is cosmetic dentistry?

The purpose of cosmetic dentistry is to improve the aesthetics of teeth and gums. Improving the appearance of teeth and gums can be accomplished by bonding natural looking restorations, enhancements, or prosthetics.

For some patients, a cosmetic treatment like professional teeth whitening is all one would need to reap the benefits of a better looking smile while other folks might need a combination of procedures like teeth whitening and the bonding of veneers to achieve their desired results.

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a restoration used to improve the appearance of teeth and repair teeth that have developed damage or disease. Dental crowns are custom made restorations that fit over biological tooth structure like caps. They cover the biting surfaces as well as the sides of teeth so that teeth are protected. A crown can be used to rebuild a badly worn tooth, repair damage caused by decay, hold a broken tooth together, and improve the appearance of a damaged tooth. Crowns closely resemble natural teeth when patients choose to have their restorations made with materials like porcelain or porcelain fused to metal.

What is a veneer?

A veneer is a cosmetic enhancement. It is bonded over the front of teeth to hide imperfections like chips, gaps, cracks, and permanent stains. A veneer is custom made in a dental laboratory to very exact measurements so that it will fit over a person’s tooth. Made from porcelain, veneers look very natural because the materials they are made from are available in a number of white shades that will reflect light the way that mineralized tooth structure does. When multiple teeth are covered by veneers, patients can achieve a complete smile makeover that produces a proportionate, straight, and white smile.

I have sensitive teeth, can I still whiten my teeth?

Sensitive teeth can make eating and drinking some of our favorite things very uncomfortable. When one has tooth sensitivity, it is always good to avoid anything that might exacerbate symptoms. Many people with sensitive teeth are told to avoid over the counter whitening products like strips and toothpastes because they might contain unstable formulas or abrasives that aggravate sensitive teeth.

While those with sensitive teeth should avoid whitening with store bought products, patients with tooth sensitivity should know that receiving professional whitening treatments is safe for their teeth. Prescription whitening solutions are stable, laboratory-tested formulas that brighten teeth without the use of harsh abrasives. A professional treatment might increase sensitivity temporarily but these symptoms should dissipate within a couple days.
